Located in beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan, the University of Michigan Law School (Michigan Law), is one of the world’s oldest and finest law schools in United States. Michigan law, founded in 1859, celebrates a distinguished and long history. The School has a diverse and sizeable faculty; 81 full-time faculty members, with many preeminent in their fields.
By 1870, it was the largest law school in the country. This school is noted for its national prominence and collegial atmosphere; a law degree from this university is well-respected throughout the country.
Michigan Law School has an enrollment of about 1,200 students, most of whom are seeking Master of Laws (LL. M.) or Juris Doctor (J. D.) degrees. In addition, the school also offers a Doctor of Juridical Science (S. J. D.) degree and a unique Summer Start program that allows students to start and finish their studies earlier.
According to U.S. News and World Report law school rankings 2010, Michigan Law is ranked 9th in the country. Michigan law school has placed more Supreme Court law clerks than any other law school. However, only Columbia Law School, Yale Law School, and Harvard Law School have graduated more Supreme Court Justices. The School has also placed thirty (including five who served as Chief Justice) of its graduates on the state's Supreme Court.
